Compress
- soak soft cloth in a hot infusion or decoction,
or 5 - 20 ml. tincture in 500 ml. hot water
- squeeze out excess water
- hold against the affected area
Cream
- 30 g. lanolin and 15 oz. beeswax melted in a double boiler
- gently stir in 100g. vegetable or fruit oil
- remove from heat and whisk in 30 ml. herb water
- keep stirring as he mixture cools
- store in wide-couthed jars
Decoctions
- trim aerial parts away from the roots
- wash the roots thoroughly in clean water
- chop into small pieces
- fill a pan with cold water and 1 teaspoon of the root
- bring to a boil and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes
- strain and allow to cool before drinking
- will keep up to 24 hours in the fridge
Infusion (Cold Infusion)
- fill a glass storage jar with herbs
- add sunflower or grapeseed oil to cover
- set sealed jar on sunny windowsill
- shake daily
- after 1 lunar month, strain
- pour into stoppered bottles to store
Infusion (Hot Infusion0
- 250g. dried or 500g. fresh herb and 750ml. sunflower or grapeseed
oil.
- heat gently in double-boiler for 3 hours
- strain through cheese cloth into dark glass bottles.
Massage Oil
- 5 drops essential oil
- 20 ml. carrier oil
Ointment
- 500g. petroleum jelly or soft paraffin
wax, heat in double boiler
- add 60g. dried ground herbs
- simmer gently 2 hours
- strain and pour into jars while still hot
Plaster
- wrap a paste of herbs in cheese cloth or muslin
- apply to affected area
Poltice
- boil herbs in water
- smooth a little oil on the skin
- apply the herb
- wrap with muslin or gauze strips
Steam
- a few tablespoons of herbs in a bowl
- pour boiling water over the herbs
- drape a towel over your head
- breath in the steam
Syrup
- add sugar or honey to an infusion or decoction (equal amounts)
- heat gently until the sugar or honey has disolved
- store in dark bottles with corked tops
Tea
- place 1 teaspoon herb in a cup
- add 1 cup boiling water
- steep 10 to 15 minutes
- strain and drink
Tincture
- steep fresh or dried herb in 25% mixture of alcohol and water
(vodka is ideal)
- use 200g. dried or 600g. fresh to 1 liter alcohol/water mix
- place in sealed jar and store in cool, dark place for 2 weeks
- shake occasionally
- strain liquid and store in dark glass bottles
- will keep up to 18 months
